Liverpool deny Philippe Coutinho has handed in transfer request

Liverpool have denied that Philippe Coutinho has handed in a transfer request.

Barcelona have had two bids rejected for the Brazilian, with Liverpool insisting he isn't for sale.

The club's FSG owners issued a statement on Friday, insisting there was no chance of Coutinho moving on this month.

But Sky Sports claimed shortly afterwards that Coutinho had handed in a formal transfer request.

The Liverpool statement read: "We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho.

"The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes."
