Barcelona's Dembele out for up to four months with ruptured tendon in his thigh
Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele has been ruled out for up to four months after rupturing the tendon in his femoral bicep in his left thigh against Getafe.
The France international, who was making his first La Liga start since his big money move from Borussia Dortmund this summer, lasted just 29 minutes at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez as he had to be replaced by ex-Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu.
At the time it was reported that Dembele was set to undergo further tests on his left leg and now the extent of the injury has been revealed via the Catalan giants’ official website and the winger is set for a lengthy period on the sidelines.
A statement read: “The tests have come back following first team player Ousmane Dembélé has ruptured the tendon in his femoral bicep in his left thigh.
“The player will be operated on by Dr. Sakari Orava in Finland this week. He is expected to be out for between three and a half months and four months.”
Described as one of the most exciting young talents in world football, this is no doubt devastating news for Dembele as he made a major impact on his Barcelona debut by providing an assist for Luis Suarez after coming on as a substitute in the 5-0 thrashing of Espanyol last weekend.
