OFFICIAL: Chelsea sign Italian defender Zappacosta from Torino on a four-year deal

Image
Chelsea have completed the signing of Italian defender Davide Zappacosta from Torino for reported €30m on a four-year deal. The Blues have been in the market for a right wing-back for Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rejecting a move to Stamford Bridge as he didn’t want to play there. The 25-year-old can play at right-back, right wing-back or on the right of midfield, and has been capped four times by Italy. On 10 July 2015 he was sold to Torino, in the same transfer that brought the midfielder Daniele Baselli to Piedmont, for a total of €10.3 million (Baselli €6M, Zappacosta €4M, plus €300,000 other fee from Zappacosta's transfer). He scored his first goal for the club on 28 October during a 3–3 draw at home to Genoa. Statement Official of Chelsea We have today completed the signing of Davide Zappacosta from Torino. Chelsea's calamitous display against Burnley is stark proof the squad is not ready

Image
Ironically, Saturday’s calamitous first half at Stamford Bridge may have been a blessing in disguise for Chelsea. This squad isn’t ready. Nowhere near ready. With all due respect, champions don’t go in 3-0 down at half time to clubs like Burnley. Chelsea and Antonio Conte have got 19 days to sort out this mess. If they don’t then how this season ends for Chelsea is anyone’s guess. The fact Conte handed 20-year-old Jeremie Boga — as talented as he is — his senior debut told his own story. The sending offs — and subsequent suspensions — of Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas have merely served to compound Conte’s concerns over his threadbare squad. This team needs reinforcements, quickly. Their spirited second half comeback doesn’t mask the fact. So where do they start? Replacing Nemanja Matic would be a start. The N’Golo Kante/Matic axis was vital to Chelsea’s title winning campaign. We know what Cesc Fabregas, who partnered Kante on Saturday, brings to the table. Pass...

'Very defensive' Chelsea will win Premier League, says Mourinho

Image
Jose Mourinho has praised Manchester United for extending their unbeaten Premier League run but admits that a "very defensive" Chelsea are unlikely to surrender their grip on the title. "It was a difficult match and a very important win for us. We are not a team scoring lots of goals so it is important to keep the clean sheets. I am really happy with the performance," he said. "Chelsea are very good defensive team. They defend very well and with lots of players and I think in this situation a very defensive team wins the title with counter-attack goals and set-pieces goals, so I don't think they will let it slip but football is football." Antonio Conte has labelled Chelsea defender David Luiz a ‘warrior’ for playing through the pain for the Blues.

Image
Luiz has struggled with a knee injury since Sergio Aguero caught him with a late challenge during the 3-1 win over Manchester City in early December. Conte admits the Brazilian defender is still struggling with his knee but said he has been impressed by the way Luiz has dealt with the problem. ‘David Luiz is available. He is fit and he is good,’ Conte said ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Burnley this weekend. ‘He’s playing with a little pain in his knee but he’s a warrior and he’s playing very well. I hope he continues in this way. ‘He’s showing me great attitude and great will to fight, despite sometimes he has a bit of pain.’ Read more: http:// metro.co.uk /2017/02/10/antonio- conte -hails-chelsea-warrior-david- luiz -for-playing-through-the-pain-6440232/#ixzz4YOgLhJwS

My wife wasnt happy with my trip to Juventus-Inter match, admits Conte.

Image
Antonio Conte has admitted his wife was not impressed by his decision to fly to Italy to watch Juventus play against Inter after he gave the first team three days off for good results against Liverpool and Arsenal. After a spell of three games in seven days, Conte was keen to reward his players for their performances and paid a visit to his former club in the meantime, denying he was there to scout any potential signings. The 47-year-old's wife Elisabetta, however, made it clear that she would have preferred he remain at home with their daughter despite the football-obsessed coach's best attempts to explain the necessity of occasional overseas trips. Chelsea's Ivanovic has 'several offers' as he is set for a January move

Image
Branislav Ivanovic looks set to leave Chelsea, and has offers from Zenit St Petersburg as well as three other Premier League to consider before leaving Stamford Bridge. Kurt Zouma's comeback to fitness also adds extra competition in the squad for the Serbia captain, and it is expected that he will be let go on a free transfer - similar to John Obi Mikel's move to China. Chelsea have hung up a permanent display for Ivanovic outside the stadium on the original wall of the Shed End, and the defender is regarded as a club legend having won every major European and domestic honour in his time at the club.
