Wenger: Xhaka denies saying alleged racist words

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Granit Xhaka has "completely denied" allegations he racially abused an airline staff member at Heathrow Airport on Monday.

The incident came less than 24 hours after Xhaka was sent off during Arsenal's 2-1 win over Burnley and understands that the Switzerland international believes he was 'provoked' and denies using the alleged racist words attributed to him by a third party at Heathrow Terminal 5.

Xhaka is currently serving a four-match suspension after his red card against Burnley, meaning he'll miss next month's crucial Premier League clash away to Chelsea as well as this weekend's cup match at St Mary's.

Since the start of last season, Xhaka has received the most red cards (5) out of any player in Europe's top five leagues and Wenger has urged him to improve his tackling technique by "staying on his feet".
